I rented a 26 ft truck for move from Louisiana to Washington St. Needless to say this wasn't cheap (2 weeks).

I dropped the truck off in perfect condition on the agreed upon date. However, I delivered it about 2 hours past the exact time which I picked it up on the first day. Consequently they charged me $100 for an extra day. When I picked it up the fuel tank was not quite full.

I delivered it with more fuel than when I picked it up.

They charged me for 4 gallons of diesel at $8.00 a gallon. If you are considering a move, I highly recommend that you use U- Haul and forget about this chicken**** outfit.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Monetary Loss: $135.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

Penske Truck Rental Cons: Overcharged.

Location: Bellingham, Washington

This is the last time I will respond to your foolish immature ramblings. For the rest of you who are using this website legitimately for what it was intended, I think I've given you enough information to see the pitfalls of doing business with Penske.

I know from many years of experience that there are many other vehicle rental companies who will work with you and not against you. U-Haul, Budget, Hertz, Alamo, Enterprise. All of my dealings with these outfits have been very positive as opposed to that with Penske. If you do go with Penske, be sure to get a copy of the contract days ahead of your move and let your lawyer take a look at it, because you will be held accountable for every word and punctuation mark contained therein, with no regard for anything else.

Also be sure to get a measuring stick and determine the exact distance between the surface of the fuel and gas cap, because you can rest assured that Penske will do this when you turn it in and charge you $8.00 a gallon. This is not the case with the other companies listed.

Pitfalls of doing business with a *** such as yourself. You are foolish and immature for not only not reading a contract but for being "surprised" they held you to it. Grow up!

Funny! Somebody tells you to be an adult and read a contract YOU entered into and YOU signed and I must be an employee?!

Does it sound familiar....maybe they told you to read your contract!? You are an ***.

I hope you didn't move for a job because your employer s.o.l. with a dimwit like you!

I know it doesn't feel fair but what did your contract say about returning the truck late? As for the gas I always take a pic of the fuel gage when I drop it off so I can show it matches or exceeds the diagram on my contract.

During a 3,000 mile move there about 1001 things to worry about. Little contractual details in a truck rental shouldn't be one of them.

These minor annoyances turned out to be quite expensive. Penske should do a better of job of outlining the details of their terms. Everything I've ever rented in my life was on a day to day basis. The concept of having to read the fine print to determine the exact minute and second I would have to return the truck never occurred to me.

Also as for taking a picture of the gas gauge.

I shouldn't have to do that. I erroneously assumed that they would bear that burden and give me an honest assessment without having to approach this like a New York lawyer.

Alright I went from feeling bad for you to seeing you as someone unable to take personal responsibility. You signed a contract.

That is one of the 1001 things you need to worry about. If you can't handle that then don't sign a contract. You caused your "minor annoyances" by wearing blinders. You actually made your life tougher than it needed to be.

By the way. If you are too busy to read your contract where they note fuel level....maybe you had it wrong and returned it with less.

It was, after all, two weeks with 1001 things to worry about. Grow up!

Are you a Penske employee? Sounds like it.

I've had many experiences with U-Haul, Budget rentals, Hertz and many other companies that rent vehicles for over 30 years. Every time there was a minor contractual infraction whether it was gas, mileage or time they would always work with me to some agreeable end. Every time I returned any vehicle it never was actually completely full, because after it is filled up, you obviously had to burn fuel to get it back. The rental outfit saw that I had made a good faith effort and were OK with it.

Never in over 30 years of renting have I ever seen any other company micro manage a rental return like Penske. Companies create contracts to protect themselves, which I perfectly understand. However.... as I've seen with numerous other outfits, they don't have to hold the consumer to everything contained within it.

How they use that contract is entirely up to them. Until now I've always seen other rental companies use reasonable judgment in expediting the terms of their contract in a way that was deemed equitable by both parties. That is until now. Bottom line.

If you want to rent from someone looking to exploit every every line of a contract to extract every single dime out of you that they can, then by all means go with Penske. If you want to rent from someone who is willing to work with you and treat you like a valued customer without having to hire a lawyer to analyzer the contract than find someone else, like U-Haul, Hertz, Budget etc...
